Armagh Heritage Day

The Armagh Visitor Education Committee (AVEC) is organising a one-day conference in the Rotunda Theatre, St Patrick's Trian on Wednesday, 24th May. The aim of the conference is to promote Armagh's rich historical and cultural heritage, encompassing several distinguished libraries and museums, and outstanding educational facilities and resources.

Proceedings will begin at 10.00 am with a welcome from the Mayor of Armagh City and District, Councillor John Campbell, followed by a keynote presentation by the Co. Monaghan Heritage Officer, Shirley Clerkin, on the Role of Heritage in a Modern Society. Representatives of the following organisations will give shorter presentations: the Armagh Observatory; the Cardinal Tomas Ó Fiaich Memorial Library and Archive; the Irish and Local Studies Library; the Armagh Public Library; the Armagh City Library; the Armagh Planetarium; the Armagh County Museum; the Navan Centre and Fort; St Patrick's Trian; and the Palace Stables Visitor Centre.

During the afternoon, those attending the meeting will be able to participate in guided tours of some of the centres with special exhibitions on view. Other centres will be open as usual. Participation at the one-day event is free and open to all.
