Subject: John Mason Lectures, Faulkes Telescope, WSP

Hi all,

1. John Mason Lecture, Belfast: A final reminder that John Mason starts
his lecture tour in Ireland with a talk to the IAA entitled "The Next
Giant Leap for Mankind", at 7.30 p.m. sharp on Wed 3 October in the Bell
Lecture Theatre, Physics Building, Queen's University Belfast. Admission
free, and all are welcome. John is one of the best, most
informative and most entertaining speakers in these islands, and his
lectures are a real treat! Definitely not to be missed! See previous
emails for details.

  2. FAULKES TELESCOPE & GCSE: The Faulkes Telescope Project in the UK
(part of Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network) are
considering offering specific support for the Edexcel GCSE Astronomy
course. In particular we can offer observing support for the coursework
aspects of this course. Edexcel already list the Faulkes Telescope
Project as a recommended resource for observing, and as such images
taken by students with our telescopes can be submitted as part of the
coursework aspect of this course. We would be very pleased to hear
from all teachers who are offering GCSE Astronomy to students in their
school, so that we can assess the cost effectiveness of providing
support for this nationally recognised qualification. If you offer GCSE
Astronomy, please email David Bowdley at dbowdleyat signlcogt.net

3. A final reminder about the Whirlpool Star Party this weekend in Birr,
Co Offaly - details in my last email.

Clear skies,

Terry Moseley
