Hi all,
Final reminders re lectures on Wednesday: 
1.  Wed. 8 Feb, 1.00pm, Thomas Davis Theatre, TCD: Dr Ian Elliott on  'Grubbs 
of Dublin: Telescope makers and Victorian Entrepreneurs'.  See 
2.  Wed 8 February, 7.30 p.m.  IAA public lecture in  Lecture theatre 5, 
Stranmillis College, Stranmillis Road, Belfast. It will be  given by Dr Neill 
Trappe, of NUI Maynooth, and is entitled "Far Infrared  Space Optics". All 
welcome; admission free, including light  refreshments.

3. The second of the DCU Astrophysics Colloquium series will be  on Thursday 
9 February at 15:00. Prof Tom Ray, School of Cosmic  Physics, Dublin Institute 
for Advanced Studies, will speak on "The Birth of  Stars and Planets". Venue: 
 Room S209 in the Research and Engineering  Building.   All are welcome to 
attend, but places are limited so,  unless you are an ASGI member, if you intend 
to go please email: turlough.downesdcu.ie
so that  they know how many to expect.
4. Prof Alan Fitzsimmons will give his inaugural professorial  public lecture 
as follows: "Asteroids and Comets: Worlds of Fire and Ice",  Thursday 23 
February, 5 p.m., Larmor Lecture Theatre, Physics Building, Queen's  University, 
Belfast. Not to be missed!
5. COSMOS - advance notice: for any of you planning events in the Spring  - 
note that the annual COSMOS Star Party, hosted by the Tullamore Society,  will 
be held on the W/E of 21 - 23 April (a bit later than usual, because of the  
Total Solar Eclipse in Turkey / Libya at the end of March). Details:
